About
I write books for curious children about magical creatures. When I teach, I look for ways to help students close the gap between what they think and what gets on the page.
I went to NYU for my MFA, my books have been translated into 10+ languages, one I was censored in China but banned in the United States. I recently relocated to the Berkshires from Los Angeles by way of New York City where I grew up. If I survive a winter, I'll stay. If your dog is a rescue or you love Barbara Pym , we'll be friends. Actually, if you can make a proper cup of tea, that works too.

Grisha is a dragon in a world that’s forgotten how to see him. Maggie is an odd girl who thinks she’s perfectly ordinary. They’re an unlikely duo—but magic, like friendship, is funny. Sometimes it chooses those who might not look so likely. And magic has chosen Grisha and Maggie to solve the darkest mystery in Vienna.
