Nilita Vachani is a filmmaker, writer and educator who divides her time between the United States and India.

She has written, produced, directed and edited the acclaimed documentaries,
EYES OF STONE, DIAMONDS IN A VEGETABLE MARKET and WHEN MOTHER COMES HOME FOR CHRISTMAS.

​Her novel HOMESPUN ​published by Other Press won Foreword's Choice Fiction Award in 2008.

Her long-form investigative reportage on white collar crime and the trafficking of a domestic worker, published in Caravan Magazine, won the Asia Media Foundation's prize for Investigative Journalism in 2016.

She is currently working on a book on the cinema of Frederick Wiseman, revisiting his first decade fifty years after.

Nilita currently teaches at the Tisch School of the Arts, NYU and the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai.
