I am the author of "Ugly Prey: An Innocent Woman and the Death Sentence that Scandalized Jazz Age Chicago" (Chicago Review Press, 2017), "This is Really War: The Incredible True Story of a Navy Nurse POW in the Occupied Philippines" (Chicago Review, 2019), and "A Light in the Dark: Surviving More than Ted Bundy," (Chicago Review, 2023, co-authored with Kathy Kleiner Rubin).

I hold a PhD from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Prior to earning my doctorate, I contributed more than 800 stories to the Chicago Tribune. My work has also run in the New York Times, New York Times International Edition, Discover Magazine, and TheAtlantic.com
