Kate Deimling translates fiction and non-fiction from French. She holds a Ph.D. in French literature from Columbia University and wrote her dissertation on 18th-century libertine novels. Kate is a member of the PEN Translation Committee and directs the mentoring program of the New York Circle of Translators. She has spoken on the craft of translation and the translation industry at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, Duke University, and the annual conferences of the American Translators Association and the American Literary Translators Association. She lives in Brooklyn with her family.
