Where Fat Girls Haven't Gone
Meet Giletta Montrose - the OG Fat Girl who showed the world her moxie long before Chrissy Metz shined in This is Us or My Big Fat Fabulous Life lit up TV screens.
Her dream of being a serious actress thwarted by perceptions and beliefs, Giletta books a gig as the star of a new reality show called Where Fat Girls Haven’t Gone. Every week she faces her fears to perform a stunt most fat girls couldn't even fathom, like skydiving, playing professional volleyball, and starring in a music video with a pop star.
What started as a joke morphs into a network hit and Giletta finds herself at a point where she must choose to either walk away from the fame to follow her dream or stay put in a world that’s familiar but not nearly as comfortable as she once believed.
The original version of this book was published in 2004 when a story about a sassy, smart, fat woman was culturally contraindicated. Twenty years later, it’s clear the book really isn’t about being fat (well maybe a bit), but rather about the cost of going after your dream and the price you pay for staying where you are.
