Janet (Jan) B Mitchell
I was born in New Zealand and trained as a secondary school English teacher before moving to Sydney. I have called Australia home since 1970. I am married with two sons and between them, they have given us three wonderful grandchildren.
I have been writing since my late teens, but it became a serious hobby when my husband and I sailed around the world in our 25' yacht between 1974 and 1977. I began sending articles to ocean cruising magazines and most were published.
Shortly after I moved to Lake Macquarie in NSW, I joined the local writer's group. That group has grown and developed incredibly once we introduced regular critique meetings. I lead one of the two critique groups.
With the development of POD, several of began self publishing through Create Space/Amazon.
I published a biography of a well-known Melbourne identity in 2011, followed by the first volume of my three-part ocean cruising memoir (Two in a Top Hat, Crossings in Realitas and Hear the Ocean Sing). During the 1990s, I sealed a twenty year passion for the study of nutrition with a post grad Diploma in Nutrition. Now, I am awaiting the proof copies of Food for Eyes, the first of a series of Food for ... books I intend to write. Food for Eyes, Nutrients for ailing vision is due to be on the global market by the end of November 2020.
I have written a number of short stories and received commendation for two. For the first time, I intend to try my hand at a novel during this November Novel Month.
