HomeResource LibraryTranslator Book Contract
The Publisher agrees to provide the Translator with __________ free print copies of the Translation as well as one free ebook copy, and additional copies for purchase at a ____% discount from the list price.
It is standard for publishers to provide translators with 10 to 15 free print copies of the translation, with additional copies available for purchase by the translator at a 40 or 50 percent discount from the list or retail price. Often the contract will state that these copies are solely for personal use, not for resale. Since many translators do readings and other events where there is an opportunity for them to sell books, it is a good idea to add a carve-out from any prohibition on selling translator copies—for instance, by adding the words "except in connection with the Translator's professional activities" after the restriction on selling translator copies.
