About
Twice published author, Alice Sherman Simpson’s debut novel BALLROOM was inspired by the author’s legacy and passion for dance.
In BALLROOM, six complex and unforgettable characters meet every Sunday to dance at a ballroom on Union Square in New York City, that is about to be demolished. Their lives interconnect in a myriad of ways.
Simpson got an immediate offer of representation from one of New York’s Top Ten literary agents and within one week the book was sold! BALLROOM was published in hardcover in
2015 and paperback in 2017 by Harper.
In November 2023, Harper will publish THE WINTHROP AGREEMENT, a tale of literary and historical fiction—with a touch of evil.
Prior to her success as an author, Simpson had forty years’ experience providing design and illustrative solutions for the Beauty, Fragrance and Cosmetic industries and publishing. Her NY design firm created artworks for gift, textile, and paper goods. As Senior Designer at Redken Laboratories in California, Simpson created award-winning videos, packaging, displays, national ads and annual reports.
Alice Sherman Simpson’s unique handmade, hand-painted books about Dance are in more than forty international Special and Rare Book Collections including: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, NYPL, Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts, and the Victoria & Albert Library.

BALLROOM
The Ballroom used to be a place to see and be seen, but the years have taken their toll. By the end of the 1990s, this Manhattan dance hall is a husk of its former self. A group of loyal patrons still makes its way to the worn parquet floor every Sunday evening: each have their private reasons for returning to the Ballroom, they find solace within its walls—and in the magic of dance.
