About
I’m an historian in Richmond, Virginia, with interests in architecture, African-American history, and local history in general with a tendency to write about crime and murder. I published "Built by Blacks: African American Architecture and Neighborhoods in Richmond, Virginia” in 2008 and it has been in print ever since. I also published “The Tri-State Gang in Richmond: Murder and Robbery in the Great Depression” in 2012 and “Richmond Murder and Mayhem” in 2023.

The Tri-State Gang in RIchmond: Murder and Robbery in the Great Depression
A violent gang of Philadelphia criminals descend on Richmond, Virginia in 1934 - a provincial little Southern town hardly ready for this onslaught of violence. The gang was famous for eliminating loose ends, even if they were their fellow gang members. Named for their area of operation in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, the Tri-State Gang was also unusual for the core members of two men and a woman whose loyalty to each other was ultimately their undoing.
