2024 Bio for Kathleen A. Hessler

Kathleen A. Hessler is an attorney and registered nurse with certifications in healthcare ethics, bioethics and compliance. She is actively working at being retired from law and nursing, transitioning to yet another career in writing. In her free time, she enjoys golfing, hiking, skiing, and traveling. She tutors kindergarteners in reading during the school year.

Ms. Hessler wrote the chapter titled “Health Care Law” for the nursing text book, Concepts for Nursing Practice, which was published in 2020, with an updated revision in 2024. She won an award for the Chapter in the 2021 New Mexico Press Women’s contest.

She also won an award in the annual SouthWest Writers contest in 2023 for the essay “Precious Penny,” which was published in Woven Pathways, an anthology of the contest winners. The same essay won first place in the 2024 New Mexico Press Women’s contest.

Ms. Hessler is putting the finishing touches on a book about her journey of hope, help and heart as she navigated life during her mother’s early onset Alzheimer’s disease, which happens, poignantly, as she practiced law representing the long-term care industry.

Ms. Hessler has been a frequent speaker at state and national healthcare and legal conferences over the span of several decades. She is available for speaking engagements and writing assignments.
