I have a degree in American Studies and English Literature from Wesleyan University. I am the executive director of the Dutchess County (NY) Historical Society which publishes New York's longest-serving historical journal, the Dutchess County Historical Society Yearbook. I also publish through my own organization, HistorySpeaks.

Prompted by public controversy over the depiction of enslaved Blacks on the wall of the Rhinebeck Post Office created by local artist Olin Dows under the direction of then US President Franklin Roosevelt, this book is meant to provide context for anyone viewing the murals. The books are regularly used in Rhinebeck public schools.
