About

William Alexander Yankes, (Bill), a resident of Hollywood, California, at the foot of the Hollywood Hills' artistic corner, Lily's Cafe which operates its friendly "club" on The Country Store veranda on Laurel Canyon. It is where artists of every ilk, especially music and movies professionals gather; in Morrison's lyrics, "where the creatures meet." Bill earned his PhD in Latin American literature with a dissertation on Latin American dictatorship literature from the University of California, Irvine, while also attending the UCLA MFA Program in film studies. He published his master's thesis (after a major re-write) as a book, which he launched in Chile with Ocho Libros Editores (whose contract is limited to Chile) in September 2023, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état on the other September 11, in 1973. He is searching for a literary agent that will take this book (which does not yet have a translation into English), the summaries of interviews he has given to Chilean print and online publications, as well as to Chilean TV, and run with it, aided by the video of the book launching, to find a publisher that will take it on and pursue its republication internationally in print, kindle, and audiobook with rights in any language.

Bill fuels his writing with lots of coffee. He takes breaks from writing and goes off evenings to play his smooth saxophone in the wild.
