About
I have been writing for the love of it since third grade. I write creative nonfiction, and have three books for young readers: The Tree in the Ancient Forest (Dawn/Sourcebooks, 1995); Salmon Stream (Dawn/Sourcebooks, 2000), and Hildegard of Bingen: Woman of Vision (Paper Crane Press, 2004). I retired from teaching music at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington in 2020. Learning about nature fascinates me, and inspires much of my writing and outdoor activities.
Featured Work
Hildegard of Bingen: Woman of Vision
Hildegard of Bingen, who lived over nine hundred years ago, was a remarkable woman--a writer, healer, diplomat, traveling preacher, philosopher, administrator, composer, and naturalist--all at a time when most women did few or any of these things. Today, scholars and historians study her writings, and musicologists study and perform her music. centuries later, her achievements still inspire us.
