Jennifer Frazer is a naturalist and science writer who authored a blog called “The Artful Amoeba” at Scientific American for nine years. She has both scientific and writing degrees: a B.A. in biology and an M.S. in Plant Pathology, both from Cornell University, as well as an M.S. in Science Writing from MIT. Her blog has been reincarnated at Substack.

She was twice a featured guest on RadioLab (“From Tree to Shining Tree” and “Smarty Plants” episodes) and have appeared on the Weather Channel and several other podcasts and local public radio stations. Her writing has received several awards including a AAAS Science Journalism Award and a 2012 Award for Distinguished Science Journalism in the Atmospheric and Related Sciences from the American Meteorological Society.

In addition to Scientific American features, her stories have appeared in Nature, High Country News, Grist, and National Geographic online. One of them about apparently immortal bacteria made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2021.
