Unearthing Christmas
UNEARTHING CHRISTMAS begins in 1955 when fourteen-year-old Lori Hopkins is incensed that her mother ruins Christmas by purchasing an aluminum tree. She convinces her dad to allow her to recreate Christmas with all of her childhood treasures in his bomb shelter. Sixty years later, another fourteen year old, Peggy, and her two crime cohorts discover the shelter while digging to hide stolen tech items. To their surprise, the shelter is fully preserved from 1955 complete with a decorated Christmas tree. Intrigued, Peggy returns alone. She reaches for a box of buttons. Lori appears, and the past and present collide into a fate-filled adventure. UNEARTHING CHRISTMAS has an underlying theme of forgiveness. We learn that Lori had confiscated stray buttons that fell away from her mother's clothing due to her nervous habit of twirling buttons. Lori planned to give them back to her mother for Christmas with an apology note, but never got the chance to make amends.
