I am a former American diplomat. I am writing a historical fiction that takes place in Haiti and Cuba. I have two published non-fiction books, one of which is titled: "Our Woman in Havana: A Diplomat's Chronicle of America's Long Struggle with Castro's Cuba.

From 1998 to 2002 I was in charge of the US Diplomatic Mission to Cuba. Yes, the U.S. has had a diplomatic mission in Havana since 1977, when President Jimmy Carter reopen our embassy, but renamed it the United States Interests Section. As the America's top diplomat in Havana, I tell stories of my interactions with the Cuban government, including my first —and last—face to face confrontation with Fidel Castro.
