About
I write on human rights and culture. My book American Apartheid and some 400 articles on Native American events and issues are based on 25 years of reporting in Native communities. Additional books include Joy Ride, with architect David Martin, and Trombone Method and Madness (forthcoming), with trombonist/composer Peter Zummo. My work has been recognized numerous times by major journalism organizations, including the George Polk Center for Investigative Reporting, the Fund for Investigative Journalism, and the Native American Journalists Association, of which I am an associate (non-Native) member. Over two decades, I was an editor at national consumer magazines.
