About

Richard McPherson is an award-winning fiction writer whose current projects provide hope, heart, and a trace of humor to readers who feel drained by the weight of the modern world.
His first novel, Man Wanted in Cheyenne (2023 Unleash Press), was called “smart, tender and funny,” with “a satisfyingly original voice.” His short stories have appeared in anthologies and literary journals in print and online. His latest short story, The Cannibal’s World Tour, will appear in December 2026, in the print anthology, Happenstance, from By Chance Books. His second novel, Sarah on Her Own – A Novel of the Gold Rush, is expected in 2027.
He is a member of the Historical Novel Society, the Authors Guild, SOMOS (Taos), and Southwest Writers, and serves as a judge for student literary competitions, including the national 2026 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. He is a board member of Unleash Creatives (Columbus, OH), serving as Chair of Special Projects, and has coordinated a national anthology of writing and photography for military veterans, judged literary competitions, and facilitated workshops for writers in the US and Canada.
During a thirty-year marketing consulting career, he advised PBS and National Public Radio stations, the NY Public Library, the Carter Center, the United Nations Environment for Europe Program (Geneva), and the Center for Investigative Reporting (Berkeley). He advised the ACLU on its pioneering Facebook fundraising “stream-a-thon,” produced by Tina Fey and hosted by Tom Hanks, the first streaming effort to receive an Emmy nomination.
He taught digital marketing at New York University (awarded Outstanding Instructor of the Year) and UCLA. He lives in New Mexico, online at richardmcpherson.me.
