He retired from the UCLA English Department faculty after serving nearly thirty years.
For many years he taught a year long, 12-unit undergraduate course, The English Bible as Literature. It became one of the most popular and highly rated courses at UCLA, placing Dr. Creasy among the top two percent of UCLA’s teaching faculty. Dr. Norman L. Geisler and Ralph E. MacKenzie, in their book Roman Catholics and Evangelicals (Baker Academic Press, 1995), call Dr. Creasy a “Bible teacher extraordinaire.”
Among his many scholarly achievements, Dr. Creasy’s book, The Imitation of Christ, a New Reading of the 1441 Autograph Manuscript, 3rd ed. (Mercer University Press, 2015) has been hailed as the standard translation of this Latin spiritual classic. It is also available as an audio book on Audible.com. His newest book, Reading the Bible, a Literary Guide to Scripture will be published by Zondervan/HarperCollins in 2025.
Dr. Creasy has been chosen as an honorary Mortar Board member at UCLA; he has been appointed as a member of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Spirituality Commission; and he has served as Scholar in Residence at Sinai Temple in Los Angeles, the first Christian academic to hold that appointment. The San Diego Ecumenical Council has also honored him for his teaching and his work in ecumenism. Dr. Creasy has spoken at countless professional gatherings, and he has served as keynote speaker at such functions as the Episcopal Bishops’ Conference. In 2022 Dr. Creasy was included in Who’s Who in America and he was recognized as among the top one percent of the nation’s educators.
Dr. Creasy formed Logos Bible Study in 1989 to teach Scripture to a general audience. The original course spanned 5 years, and he taught through the entire Bible, verse-by-verse, Genesis through Revelation, in local churches. By 1995 he was teaching over 2,000 people weekly in the Los Angeles area. In 1995 Dr. Creasy opened his first regional class in San Diego, bringing together 18 local churches, both Roman Catholic and Protestant. Classes in Orange County and Phoenix, Arizona followed. By 2000 he was teaching over 6,000 people weekly throughout Southern California and Arizona . . . in addition to serving full time on the UCLA English Department faculty.
In 1992 Dr. Creasy led his first “teaching tour” to Israel and to date he has led 68 Israel teaching tours, as well as dozens of “Footsteps of St. Paul” tours to Turkey and Greece; “Footsteps of the Patriarchs” to Eastern Turkey; “Footsteps of Moses” to Egypt and Jordan; “At Sea with St. Paul” to the Aegean Sea; and 5-star Mediterranean Cruises, visiting Spain, Malta, Crete, Egypt, Israel, Cypress and Turkey. During a typical year, Dr. Creasy leads 4-6 such teaching tours, totaling 200-300 students annually. He has just completed leading an in-depth seminar on the book of Revelation on the Aegean island of Patmos, were John wrote Revelation, with a visit to the seven churches in Turkey mentioned in Revelation 2-3.
Dr. Creasy’s website logosbiblestudy.com offers 22 in-depth, university-level courses on Scripture, which include both the complete Old and New Testaments and the Deuterocanonical books (or “Apocrypha”). Audible.com hosts over 600 hours of his live, professionally recorded, studio-edited lectures, that move verse-by-verse through the entire Bible, Genesis through Revelation, recorded before a live audience in Seal Beach, California. The Audible courses have garnered tens of thousands of 5-star reviews. In addition, Dr. Creasy hosts two podcasts: 1) the One Year Bible, a podcast on Spotify, where he teaches through the entire Bible in 80 podcasts of 45-60 minutes each, as well as hosting live discussion sessions during his weekly Tuesday and Thursday Zoom “Office Hours”; and 2) Scripture Uncovered, a weekly podcast that explores more deeply issues relating to biblical literature, textual studies, history, theology, culture, and hermeneutics. Dr. Creasy’s two Podcasts have achieved over 1 million “listens.” Through his live classes, seminars, retreats, podcasts and teaching tours, over 250,000 students have participated in Logos Bible Study courses and events.
His most recent book, Reading the Bible, a Literary Guide to Scripture, will be published in August of 2025 by Zondervan/HarperCollins.

Reading the Bible, a Literary Guide to Scripture (Zondervan/HarperCollins)
The Bible is a big book, over 2,000 pages written in dead languages a long time ago in a time and culture very different from our own. Many have tried to read the Bible cover-to-cover but gave up around Leviticus or Chronicles. Well, I'm a scout who has been down the trail verse-by-verse, Genesis through Revelation, many times. In "Reading the Bible, a Literary Guide to Scripture," I lead my readers on a great adventure through Scripture, introducing them to fascinating characters and stories, adding color, tone, and texture to black words on a white page, while avoiding the thickets, cliffs, and rocky terrain along the trail. Together we share a wonderful adventure through "the greatest story ever told."
