About
I am a Catholic priest, recently retired from the Archdiocese of New York. I worked for many years as chaplain at Sing Sing Prison and, after retiring, wrote a book about it, exposing some of the gross corruption in the criminal justice system. That book, REFUGE IN HELL, was published by Orbis Press in 2019. I blew the whistle on a predatory priest in my former parish in 1996, suffering many repercussions until he was finally de-frocked in 2005, after having molested altar boys in numerous parishes, at least six of whom committed suicide. Ten years ago, I co-founded a group of other whistleblowers who all had similar experiences. That is why I decided to write a book about clergy sexual abuse from the perspective of whistleblowers.

Refuge in Hell
It reflects my experience as a prison chaplain, attempting to provide a refuge in the midst of the hellish criminal justice system at Sing Sing Prison. I attempted to show the humanity of individuals, often greatly abused in childhood, who usually turned to alcohol and drugs to blot out their pain, which then led them to commit some horrible deeds. But it also shows the depraved indifference of the far worse "criminals" who were running the system, often getting away with far worse crimes than the ones committed by the prisoners. It was published by Orbis Press. Unfortunately, they did very little publicity, and shortly after publication, the pandemic hit, making it impossible for me to continue to arrange book signings, so it did not sell well. That is why I am looking for a publisher that provides more help with publicity.
