About
I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in a community much like the one depicted in my novel. I hold both a B.A. in English and an M.D. degree from the University of Manitoba. I completed an Internal Medicine residency at McGill University and a Neurology residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan. I currently practice Neurology and reside in Mill Valley, California, near San Francisco.
I have written articles for my local newspaper and have published in several medical journals. Prairie Sonata is my first novel.

Prairie Sonata
Genre: Literary fiction, Historical fiction, High level women's fiction, crossover Young Adult fiction
Prairie Sonata is a story of journeys, and the sonata form in music is a metaphor for those journeys. The story is told from the perspective of a woman looking back at herself as a young adult and follows her passage from innocence to experience.
The protagonist, Mira, grows up on the prairies in post–World War II Canada, in a close-knit community founded by secular Jews from Eastern Europe. The heart of her journey is her friendship with her Yiddish and violin teacher, Chaver B, a recent immigrant from Prague who is intriguing and paradoxical, and who Mira believes harbors a painful secret. As their lives become entwined, Mira ultimately discovers what that secret is.
While Mira attempts to reconcile the external world with her idyllic childhood, Chaver B is on an internal journey, trying to come to terms with what he believes are his personal failings. Similar to a sonata, at the end of the novel, Chaver B and Mira each reach their respective resolutions.
A coming-of-age story about music, love, friendship, community, and religion, it is ideal for book clubs and classrooms. Prairie Sonata is a riveting tale that will resonate with and captivate the reader.
