Cornelia Maude Spelman, MSW, was a therapist with children and families before turning full-time to writing and art. A FOOT IS NOT A FISH!, a funny-but-serious picture book which helps children think about reality versus opinion/wish, is her latest book.

Her first memoir, MISSING, was published by Northwestern University Press is 2010 and came out in paperback from JackLeg Press in 2023. A second memoir, SOLACE, will be forthcoming in Fall 2024. In addition to A FOOT IS NOT A FISH! she's written eleven other books for children that help them manage emotion and difficult life situations or help them to think about their world. Her "The Way I Feel" series of books for young children, described by reviewers as "sensitive" and "compassionate," have sold over four million copies and been translated into Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Greek, Japanese, German, Arabic, Turkish, Danish, Portuguese, and Russian. She is also the author of the best-selling YOUR BODY BELONGS TO YOU.
