Narrative nonfiction writer Devra Hall Levy has a penchant for profiles and a special interest in people make a difference – often from behind the scenes. Her expertise in the fields of technology, music, and education, has led to bylines in magazines, newspapers, and books.
Devra is the author of “Men, Women, and Girl Singers" (Beckham Publications, 2001), “Strollin’: A Jazz Life Through John Levy’s Personal Lens” (SnapSizzleBop Media, 2008), and a dozen computer trade books. She is currently working to complete a memoir, "Close Enough For Love", and a biography, “Seeking Harmony: The Life and Music of Luther Henderson”, the jazz and Broadway maestro who was Duke Ellington’s “classical arm” and musical director for celebrated artists such as Lena Horn and Polly Bergen. Her first play, "Joe Williams: Here's To Life" starring Keith David is in workshop phase.
Her feature articles and reviews have appeared in Miller-McCune magazine, Billboard Magazine, Jazz Improv, The New York Times Book Review, and in the CD booklets of recordings by Oscar Peterson, Joe Williams, Jim Hall, Nancy Wilson, The English Chamber booklets of recordings by Oscar Peterson, Joe Williams, Jim Hall, Nancy Wilson, The English Chamber Orchestra, and The London Symphony Orchestra.

Men, Women, and Girl Singers
John Levy’s life story written for him by his wife, Devra Hall, with a Forward by Quincy Jones, is depicts the journey of a young man encouraged to find security in a Post Office job who opted instead for a life in jazz. He became a sought-after bassist with George Shearing and Billie Holiday among others, and then a personal manager representing dozens of jazz luminaries including Cannonball Adderley, Freddie Hubbard, Wes Montgomery, Joe Williams, and Nancy Wilson.
