The Way Through the Woods: A Child’s Escape Through the Haunted Forests of WWII Germany
Six-year-old Krista Schneider loves helping her mother Agatha and adoptive sister Mila harvest and tend to the family garden in the village of Bleichenbach. The two girls played together while Agatha sold her embroidery and while Horst, her father, worked as a tailor in a thriving shop in the village.
But Krista finds her idyllic world rocked apart when she discovers she must keep Mila a secret: The mentally-challenged daughter of a neighbor who in fact hides in their home by day and returns to her real family at night. Shortly after their twelfth birthday, with Krista enlisted as a coveted Nazi Youth Teacher, Mila runs away, unraveling the two families’ secret and jeopardizing their lives…
Based on true events.
