About

I love to write compelling and engaging history for readers of all ages. There are many stories of under-represented Black heroes and sheroes in American history. Their histories share the legacies and contributions of Blacks and women, and racial and social justice.

My books, articles, and presentations are unique with the combination of music and Black history. The book series, "Indiana Avenue Jazz" is available on Amazon. The first book, "Indiana Avenue - Life and Musical Journey from 1915 to 2015" showcases the 100-year history of music legends of Indiana Avenue and my African American family.

Most music fans are familiar with the great jazz and blues music hubs like Harlem, Chicago, Kansas City, Memphis, and New Orleans. Indiana Avenue has been ignored even though jazz greats such as Wes Montgomery, J.J. Johnson, David Baker, and Larry Ridley were native sons.

The second book in the series, "The Robust LIfe and Music of Noble Sissle, Sr." is a biography of Noble Sissle, Sr. The sub-title is Biography of a Broadway show co-producer, lyricist, tenor soloist, Harlem Hellfighter, Veteran, international jazz conductor and entrepreneur. Sissle rose from a church soloist in Indianapolis to become an international jazz conductor in Paris.

I enjoy presenting the online and live "Indiana Avenue Jazz" presentations to groups of all ages. Music, photos, and stories of music legends engage audiences to snap their fingers and tap their toes. Live presentations have been given at the Carmel Performing Arts Center, Eskenazi Health (live streamed to patients and staff rooms), and I U Health Wellness Symposium. Audience reactions include dancing, singing along, and plenty of smiles.
