I am the author of Mourning Sarah, published in Oxford and New York. I have published in newspapers and magazines and won awards. I taught creative writing at all levels and taught literature, English, and writing in college for twenty years. I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master's in English, and a master of fine arts in creative nonfiction writing from Goucher College.

More than 400,000 newborn babies died or suffered the devastating consequences of group B strep before angry, grieving parents stormed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and guidelines were enacted.
Mourning Sarah is a love story to a baby who died of group B strep. It is also an account of the medical, legal, and emotional aspects of a preventable bacterial infection.
