About
An author and translator living in North America and Europe, I grew up in Italy. Rome is my hometown. After a 24-year naval career in cruisers and destroyers, I spent ten years at the University of Virginia as Administrator of the Physics Department then Director of Housing (Management Services). I left the University in 2000 to focus full-time on translating and writing. In 2013, I packed my office and home into the panniers of my bicycle rode out to see if I could live and work on the road.
Having proven that the nomadic lifestyle works with a bicycle, I came back to Virginia, where I am writing while waiting for travel restrictions to loosen and figuring out where to go next.
My fiction bridges the genres of travel and action adventure, while the non-fiction includes travel writing and self-help booklets for freelancers and career-changers. My novels will lead you into two different series (Emily & Hilda and Lockhart). In the blog of my website (https://jthine.com), I post sea stories (memoirs), and short stories featuring characters and backstory for the novels.
Featured Work
Emily & Hilda
Emily is a teenage phenom on the American bicycle road racing circuit.
Retired Army nurse Hilda is crossing the USA on her bicycle.
They meet on a deserted road in Kansas, not suspecting that their paths will ever cross again.
Emily's family moves to Virginia, where she attracts unexpected and deadly attention.
Meanwhile, Hilda survives a terrorist attack– and gets on the terrorists' hit list.
When Emily accepts Hilda's offer to ride to Canada – with Hilda's friend Jack – it promises to be a fun adventure.
If they can survive it…
