Magician and Fool
MAGICIAN & FOOL tells the story of Pamela Coleman Smith, a young woman born in England of mixed blood, who traveled to Jamaica with her father in the early 1900's, and then came to New York to study art at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City. She met up with Ellen Terry and Sir Henry Irving on tour with the Lyceum Theatre touring company and moved back to England with them, establishing herself as an artist and also establishing a center for artists of all pursuits, where they could assemble to associate and collaborate. She was recruited by the Golden Dawn, an esoteric sect, to create a deck of tarot cards, which went on to sell 100 million copies world-wide.
Pamela's gift as a story-teller, with her gifts of second sight, contributed to her life as an illustrator, painter, collaborator and publisher which brought her in touch with the leading artists of the day. Her battle with the rejected members of the cult of The Golden Dawn led to her confront the issues of good and evil and the battle of an artist's claim to their creation.
