Missions of Our Moment
Alice Porter thinks her boyfriend, Jimmy Constantine, is one of many killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, until a private investigator, Martin Kohl, and the FBI show up at her door. They allege that Jimmy has joined al Qaeda, and he and Alice have planned to defraud an insurance company for his death benefit. Alice refuses to accept such accusations and is swept up in an underground intrigue while trying to uncover the truth. Trusting only Tucker Boyd, a retired CIA officer, his wife, Thelma, and winning over Martin, the four become personally involved in the War on Terror. When Jimmy finally surfaces, Alice finds herself trapped in the Washington National Cathedral where terrorists plan to detonate a dirty bomb. Then she is forced to decide between the hope of returning to a normal life or the call to expand a clandestine one.
