Over the past three decades, from 1989 to 2019, G. Pascal Zachary has pursued new knowedge in multicultural, global and techno-scientific contexts, as a writer, researcher and teacher.
As a senior writer at The Wall Street Journal, Zachary published more than 80 page-one articles during the decade of the 1990s. His reportage for the WSJ first concentrated on Silicon Valley and, in the second half of the 1990s, on emerging aspects of globalization. He published two books in the decade: Showstopper, on the making of a software program at Microsoft, and Endless Frontier, a study of the life and times of the iconic engineer, Vannevar Bush, who as part of his duties as President Franklin Roosevelt's science adviser and chief innovation officer organized the Manhattan Project and laid the groundwork for the National Science Foundation. Both these books remain in print, and continue to be read and studied.
