I am a mother of two daughters and two grandsons, and I will soon be fifty.
When I sit here remembering years ago, I believed I had nothing to show for my life except my daughters. However, that all was to change after my return to England in 2012. I lived in England for four years, and my daughters were born there. But, in the time I spent in England, not once did I venture out to see what England had to offer, and this had always been a big regret of mine. So when the opportunity came for me to return to England, I decided to visit Manchester just north from where I lived in Lakenheathshire for the first time after twenty years, and my experience was delightful. I returned the following year, visiting Cheshire, England, here is when I came up with the idea to write my first book ‘The Power of Love’ written in the 16th Century. What I found funny about attempting to write a book, I just started reading for the first time in my life. I was thirty-three at the time. I had never cared to read, and when I tried, I did not find it interesting. It was my roommate at the time who introduced me to my first book, ‘Pillars of the Earth’ when I voiced my interest in wanting to start reading to broaden my mind, needless to say, I was shocked on how large the book was, and this was to be my first book. She encouraged me by saying, ‘it’s a great book, you will love it. I couldn’t put it down when I read it’. So I gave it a try and again was shocked to find I was pulled in immediately, and I too could not put it down. I read it every chance I had.
When I finished my story (as it was only 50 pages at the time), I had no idea it would end up where it is now, a novel of four hundred pages and over hundred and sixty-five thousand words. I have since learned as a new unknown writer; this is too large. So, as I am working with an editor, I am also working on where to break the story up. It appears with my changes, yet again, I will need to break my book up in three parts.
Now with my birthday quickly approaching, I find I am ready to have my book(s) published, either by a traditional publishing company (which is my preference) or self publish. To be the writer I want to be, I decided to join the authors guild, so I find workshops to help me be a better writer.
I am raw, inexperience, I know this, but I am prepared to be the writer I know I can be and find my place in this life as a writer.
I will give you a small secret. My stories, although fiction, have a semblance of truth to them.
