About
Before she began writing full-time, Karen was a high school science teacher, a ship captain, and a federal agency spokesperson. Her work has been published in the Stonecoast Review, Wooden Boat, Belladonna Comedy, and others. She studied with Pam Houston, Lidia Yuknavitch, and Dorothy Allison, and once wrote briefing materials for three cabinet secretaries and one U.S. President.
