About

Edith Brady-Lunny is an author and an award-winning journalist with experience writing for newspapers, radio and magazines.
Recognition for Edith’s work includes the Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club, the Jospeh P. McGuire ward from the ACLU, the Abraham Lincoln Media Award from the Illinois Press Association and the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting. Edith’s work has been nationally recognized by Mental Health America for her extensive work on mental health issues in the criminal justice system.
Edith is a journalism fellow at the Center on Crime, Media and Justice, John Jay College in New York. Her work with the CCMJ included projects on juvenile justice, mental health and re-entry issues for incarcerated individuals.
In 2022, Edith joined Denis Hambucken and John Warner on a project to create an aviation exhibit at the C.H.Moore Homestead and DeWitt Conty Museum in Clinton, Illinois. The professionally curated exhibit designed by Hambucken told the stories of DeWitt County aviators and aviation lovers spanning 100 years. The success of the exhibit and the compelling collection of stories led the team to work on an expanded version of the exhibit. In 2024, The History Press, an imprint of Arcadia Publishing, offered to publish Prairie Flyers of Central Illinois: a century of aviation in America’s Heartland.
The stories in the new collection were authored by the three collaborators. The book is dedicated to John Warner who was killed in an auto accident in 2023.
The aviation book is Edith’s second published work. In 20219, she and co-author Steve Vogel wrote The Unforgiven: the untold story of one woman’s search for love and justice.
The book is based on a true story involving the deaths of three young children in Clinton Lake. The children’s mother Amanda Hamm and her boyfriend Maurice LaGrone, also the driver of the car when it sank into the lake, were charged with murder. Maurice was convicted of murder and Amanda was found guilty of child endangerment. The differing outcomes of the two cases have been debated since the final verdict was returned against Amanda in 2006.
