Julia Lee Barclay-Morton
I am an award-winning writer and director, whose work has been published and produced internationally; in May my short story 'White shoe lady' won the Nomadic Press Bindle Prize, and was recently published as a chapbook in December; a recent play was chosen for the Cimientos 2018 play development program at IATI Theater, and newest play 'On the edge of/a cure' was produced by Rogue Players in May at The Playroom in NYC. My prose and plays have been published, in print anthologies and online, in Ohio Edit, Pearson-Prentice Hall, Burning House Press, TL;DR, NYTE, and Stockholm Review (which journal nominated my story 'The God Thing' for the Sundress Publications Best of the Net anthology). 'The God Thing' was awarded an Honorable Mention by Glimmer Train in a story contest, and was a runner-up for Gertrude's chapbook contest (published as an excerpt online). I received the Jeanne B. Krochalis award to attend the Wesleyan Writers Conference and was accepted for a residency at Vermont Studio Center. I was long-listed for the Mslexia Prize in the UK (for an unpublished novel by a woman), which book is tentatively scheduled to be published in September 2020 by J.New Books. I have been invited to numerous conferences to present my work, notably as a guest speaker at the 21st Century Literature conference at University of Lincoln, where I presented alongside authors such as Will Self, Iain Sinclair and Carol Ann Duffy. I now teach my own writing workshops in NYC as well as working as a coach and editor; I have taught writing and theater at many universities in New York and London, both as a professor and guest artist. I was awarded a practice-as-research PhD arguing in words and with two productions of my London-based Apocryphal Theatre that performance/theater can be an act of philosophy at University of Northampton, UK (for which I was awarded a full fellowship—an unusual honor for an American in the UK) and received a BA with High Honors in Theater from Wesleyan University.
