About
Laura Selene Rockefeller is a writer, actress, and first person historical interpreter based in Boston, MA. She was the winner of the “LitMag” 2021 Virginia Woolf Award for short fiction, and her stories have appeared in the literary journals “Stork” and “New Square.” She has published articles in “Brontë Studies” and “The Revere Express.”
Under her stage name, Laura Rocklyn, she writes and performs historic character portrayals for educational groups on both sides of the Atlantic. Her one-woman play "Charlotte Brontë: To Do More & Better Things" was presented as part of the North American Friends of Chawton House 2021 Speaker Subscription Series, and her original short play "Emma is Presented in Washington City" was performed as the curtain raiser for the Jane Austen Society of North America 2016 Annual General Meeting.
Laura’s original adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" was produced by Chesapeake Shakespeare Company" in 2022; the original adaptation of JANE EYRE Laura co-wrote with Sally Boyett was produced by the Classic Theatre of Maryland in 2024; and "Clover," a bio-drama Laura co-wrote with Ty Hallmark, was produced by Ally Theatre Company in DC in 2017.
Laura is on the Executive Board of the North American Friends of Chawton House, on the Board of the Classic Theatre of Maryland, and is on the Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
She is a Museum Educator at the Paul Revere House Museum in Boston and an Associate Company Member with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.
Laura holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and an MFA from The Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting at The George Washington University.

The Woman on the Point
Laura is honored that her short story "The Woman on the Point" was the 2021 winner of the 'LitMag' Virginia Woolf Award for Short Fiction. This epistolary historical fiction story takes the reader on a journey to the Idlewild Hotel on Swans Island in Maine in August of 1898. Alice has retreated to this secluded spot as she grieves for death of her fiancé in the Spanish-American War. Will her encounter with a mysterious woman on the rocks help Alice say goodbye to Edward and move forward?
