"Boreal Ties: Photographs and Two Diaries of the 1901 Peary Relief Expedition"
The book, published by the University of New Mexico Press, highlights the images captured by my great grandfather, Clarence Wyckoff, and his friend, Louis Bement, on their 1901 relief mission to the Arctic. Written with the support of Silas Ayer, the grandson of Bement, the book is filled with never before seen images of the Inuit in the Thule region of northern Greenland. Tucked within the pages are the mens’ 1901 diary entries, giving detailed impressions of what it was like to live in this remote region either as an Inuit, or as the world’s first Arctic explorers.
