About

I'm an award-winning author, seasoned journalist, and democracy activist. My latest title is MAKING GLOBAL SENSE : Grounded hope for democracy and the earth (inspired by Thomas Paine’s Common Sense). Its companion novella is A FABLE OF LIBERTY LOST & FOUND. I have written or edited 15 books that won a dozen awards.

I serve on the international steering committee of the Banned Books Week Coalition and as the the state coordinator for Banned Books Week Colorado. I'm active on the board of the Thomas Paine Historical Association and serve as editor of The Beacon.

Entering journalism in 1976, I worked a decade as a reporter, columnist and editor for Denver newspapers and magazines. For the next two decades, I wrote for top U.S. and European media industry trade magazines (pioneered coverage of the internet, interactive TV and distance learning), wrote a book on educational television for The Financial Times (UK). I gave talk on four continents about industry trends and "deep media literacy." I next worked a decade for publishers on Kauai, returning home to Denver in 2020, where I now cover Colorado for a national news services and work on my books.

I found my writers voice in The Story Workshop with John Shultz and Betty Shifflet at Colombia College Chicago. I hold a double BA in journalism and communication from the University Without Walls at Loretto Heights College (Regis), I researched organizational culture and public communication in the Individualized MA program of Antioch.

Along with AG, I'm a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (First Amendment and Banned Books Committee), PEN America, Society of Professional Journalists, Alliance of Independent Authors (UK), Independent Book Publishers Association, Colorado Independent Publishers Association (past board and trade shows chair). Colorado Authors League (past president) and the historic Denver Press Club (past board).

A cancer survivor since 2016, as a freedom and democracy advocate, I live with purpose.
