Saving Kenny
Set in Boston in 1968, African American Kenny must face down ridicule from his peers and brother to pursue his dream of designing costumes. The confidence gained from studying costuming gives him courage to dream of a happier, safer life away from his abusive mother. When his Black Panther brother flees to Canada to avoid the draft, Kenny and his sister devise a plan to escape their mother by going away to school. When his mother gets sick and is hospitalized, he learns about the disappointments and stresses in her life as a single mother, but that doesn’t excuse her abuse and Kenny deserves better. After a violent confrontation his mother agrees to get, help and Kenny’s dreams start coming true.
