Allen Ellenzweig
I am an arts critic, cultural journalist and essayist with a specialty in photography; my book, The Homoerotic Photograph: Male Images from Durieu/Delacroix to Mapplethorpe, originally published by Columbia University Press in 1992, was reissued in a 2012 paperback edition. I am currently under contract to Oxford University Press for a biography of the 20th Century American gay cosmopolitan photographer George Platt Lynes (1907-1955).
I have published in both specialized and mass market journals and magazines (Art in America, The Village Voice, and American Photographer, among others). Most recently, I have written online cultural commentary for TABLET and film reviews for The Forward. I am a regular contributor to the Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide. A few works of my short fiction have been published in print and online, including a chapter from my novel THE FRENCH PROFESSOR in the online Lodestar Quarterly. I am currently seeking representation for that novel as well as another completed in the mid-2000s.
