About
I'm a novelist, poet, and poem translator. Occasionally I write essays and short fiction. Talking with other writers is my cup o' tea; I like to do workshops and readings, for book clubs, writers' groups, MFA students, high schoolers, undergrads, libraries, you name it.
Right now, I'm obsessed with Homer's ODYSSEY: you bet I think it's relevant today. But I haven't lost my love for the literature of medieval China, especially women poets of the Tang dynasty and just before. My "Avalokitesvara trilogy" of novels includes SILK ROAD, BRONZE MIRROR, and MANCHU PALACES. And my lifelong passion for getting out into the woods led to my fourth novel, SALLY PARADISO.

What Penelope Chooses: Poems
Sassy lyrical footnotes to the Odyssey, with an occasional look-see in the direction of the Iliad. This sequence won the Cider Press Review Book Award. You can find some of the poems in literary journals on line and in print. Pretty 21st-century stuff, if you ask me...
