About

Deborah Hopkinson is the New York Times bestselling author of more than 85 books for young readers and teens. Her work includes picture books, middle grade fiction, and nonfiction. Her new and forthcoming titles include TAKE COVER, DOLLY PARTON Ultimate Fan edition Golden Book, and LUCKY's HOME FOR LOST AND HUNGRY DOGS. Her nonfiction book TITANIC: VOICES FROM THE DISASTER was a Sibert Honor book; UP BEFORE DAYBREAK: COTTON AND PEOPLE IN AMERICA was the 2026 winner of the Phoenix Award, and ON A SUMMER NIGHT was the 2025 Margaret Wise Brown Prize Honor Book. She lives near Portland, Oregon.

Deborah received her BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and MA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She worked in higher education fundraising before becoming a full time writer in 2014. She lives near Portland, Oregon.
