About
Laurie Viera Rigler’s best-selling novels CONFESSIONS OF A JANE AUSTEN ADDICT and RUDE AWAKENINGS OF A JANE AUSTEN ADDICT (Dutton / Plume) could have been considered semi-autobiographical had they not involved time travel and body switching.
Her short story, INTOLERABLE STUPIDITY, in which Mr. Darcy brings charges against all the writers of Pride and Prejudice sequels, spin-offs and retellings, appears in the anthology JANE AUSTEN MADE ME DO IT (Ballantine). Laurie is also the creator of the Babelgum Original web series SEX AND THE AUSTEN GIRL, which was inspired by her Austen Addict novels.
Laurie's novels have also been published in the UK (Bloomsbury), France (Bragelonne), Italy (Sperling & Kupfer), and the Netherlands (Archipel).
CONFESSIONS OF A JANE AUSTEN ADDICT won a Publishers Weekly Listen Up Award, and RUDE AWAKENINGS OF A JANE AUSTEN ADDICT was nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Mainstream Fiction. CONFESSIONS OF A JANE AUSTEN ADDICT was also nominated for The Jane Austen Centre’s award for Best New Fiction.
Having spent a few years writing her first novel and reading too many proclamations about how aspiring novelists were more likely to win the lottery than ever get published, Laurie is passionate about encouraging other writers. In addition to working on her next two novels, Laurie provides developmental editing services to authors of fiction and nonfiction. She has also given talks and taught workshops in storytelling technique and publishing strategies, including classes at Vroman’s, Southern California’s oldest and largest independent bookstore.
Featured Work
Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict
In Laurie Viera Rigler's first novel, Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict, twenty-first-century Austen fan Courtney Stone found herself in Regency England occupying the body of one Jane Mansfield, with comic and romantic consequences.
Now, in Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict--the parallel story to Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict and #2 in the trilogy--Miss Jane Mansfield, a lady of 1813 England, awakens in the urban madness of twenty-first-century L.A.—in Courtney's body. With no knowledge of Courtney's life, let alone her world, Jane is over her head. What shall she make of horseless carriages and a shiny glass box in which tiny figures act out her favorite book, Pride and Prejudice? Even more confusing are the rules of love, especially when she falls for a handsome young gentleman. Can a girl from Regency England make sense of a world in which kissing and flirting and even the sexual act raise no matrimonial expectations?
