Jeff Hecht has been a full-time science and technology writer for over three decades. The fun description is that he writes about lasers and dinosaurs, but he covers more than that. He contributes regularly to New Scientist magazine and Laser Focus World, and also writes for other magazines including Optics & Photonics News and IEEE Spectrum. He also has written 11 books, and published over 30 pieces of short science fiction in venues including Nature, Daily Science Fiction, Analog Science Fiction, Interzone, Asimov's SF, Twilight Zone, Odyssey, and several anthologies.
