An historical mystery set in 1881, New Mexico Territory. A soldier is murdered at Fort Union, and Mary Margaret O'Keenan, an Irish immigrant laundress, sets out to find his killer. In uncovering the murderer, she also finds fraud reaching as high as the Office of the Secretary of War.
