About

Peggy Archer is the author of picture books for children including fiction, poetry and non-fiction. Besides picture books, Peggy has written board books for Highlights' Find It series and Highlights Let’s Grow series for ages 0-2 years.

Peggy enjoys speaking to children and adults about books and writing. Her author presentations include all ages from students in elementary through high school, and guest speaker at conferences and events for children’s writers. She is the PAL Coordinator for Missouri SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators), and a former Assistant Regional Advisor for Indiana SCBWI.

Peggy enjoys reading, walking, line dancing and spending time with her family. She and her husband have six grown children and twelve grandchildren. Born in Gary, IN, Peggy spent most of her life in northwest Indiana. She and her husband live in O’Fallon, MO.

Awards and Recognition

  • A Hippy-Hoppy Toad (Schwartz & Wade, March 2018) won the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) Work-in-Progress Award for best picture book text in 2015. It is a Junior Library Guild selection and appeared on the Spring 2018 Kids' Indie Next List.
  • Name That Dog! Puppy Poems from A to Z (Dial Books for Young Readers) was nominated for the 2012 Utah Beehive Award for Poetry and was listed on Grandparents.com’s Best Collections of Poetry Spring 2010.
  • From Dawn to Dreams, Poems for Busy Babies (Candlewick Press) received a letter of merit from SCBWI and was nominated for the 2007 Cybil Award for Children's Poetry.
  • Turkey Surprise (Dial Books for Young Readers) was a NY Times Bestseller in 2007.
