About

Julia Henri is a writer, journalist, and photographer whose career includes major newsrooms, specialized publications, and independent historical research. She started as a staff writer for the Boston Herald, contributed as a stringer for the Associated Press, and has worked extensively in investigative and evidence-based reporting throughout the Boston area.

Her recent work includes writing for magazines and trade journals, as well as producing "Juicy History," a well-regarded Substack newsletter focused on overlooked episodes of American history. Her articles often explore the forgotten corners of the past, drawing on firsthand accounts, newspaper archives, and early printed sources.

In addition to her published writing, Julia has extensive experience in the arts, auction, and appraisal fields. She is a former Accredited Appraiser with the International Society of Appraisers and has collaborated with fellow appraisers from PBS’s Antiques Roadshow over several years.

Currently, Julia writes about a variety of subjects, including history, food, fine art, antiques, historic fashion, and collectibles for her Substack newsletter. Each article is thoroughly researched, fact-checked, and photographed, often utilizing materials from her private collection of antiquarian books and rare periodicals, some of which date back to the 18th century. When necessary, she consults with museum professionals, scholars, and subject-matter experts to verify details and address any gaps.

In addition to writing on Substack, Julia freelances and is known for delivering clean, reliable copy on deadline. She collaborates closely with editors to meet the specific needs of each publication. Additionally, she works as a professional photographer and keeps up with emerging tools in visual storytelling.

“I love my job. I’m always on the lookout for offbeat stories with intriguing angles, twists, and hooks—pieces that keep readers curious and engaged right through to the final word.”
