About
April Halprin Wayland is the author of seven books, including More Than Enough—a Passover Story (Dial); the gold medal-winning New Year at the Pier (Dial), and the award-winning novel in poems, Girl Coming in for a Landing (Knopf).
She blogs at www.TeachingAuthors.com, is a frequent speaker at schools and conferences, and received UCLA Extension Writer's Program Outstanding Instructor award, where she has been teaching since 1999.
When she is not writing, April plays the fiddle, hikes with her dog, and helps people vote. She lives near the beach in Southern California with her husband, their licky, lanky dog, a tortoise named Sheldon (because he has a shell) and a cat named Snot.
Visit her at www.AprilWayland.com where you'll discover that she's 1/2 author, 1/2 poet, 1/2 not good at fractions.
Featured Work
MORE THAN ENOUGH ~ A Passover Story
NEW YORK TIMES:
More Than Enough works equally well as a primer on Passover and a reminder for any child, Jewish or not, that any day can be filled with...blessings…Kath’s friendly watercolor illustrations...hum with personality and lively details.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY:
No Passover Seder is complete without a rousing rendition of “Dayenu” (“It would have been enough”), a song of gratitude for everything God did in redeeming the Israelites from slavery. Wayland (New Year at the Pier) and Kath (Penelope Perfect) give “Dayenu” an even broader meaning, explaining the song as “a reminder to be aware of and grateful for the blessings in each moment.” ...Kath’s scenes of Jewish home life exude an easygoing buoyancy and warmth, with just enough humor and detail to make readers eager to find their own “Dayenu” moments. Ages 3–5.
