Living Into the Truth: A Daughter's Journey of Discovery
"Living Into the Truth" is Annette Marquis's memoir of uncovering family secrets and embracing her own secrets, i.e., identity as a lesbian. Set in mid-20th century America, it explores her journey from a Catholic upbringing to self-acceptance. Marquis investigates her origins, including a sister lost to polio, and grapples with the impact of hidden truths on her family. The narrative intertwines personal stories with historical events, examining identity and belonging. Through research and DNA testing, Marquis unravels her past, reflecting on family dynamics and the weight of secrets. Her journey from closeted adolescent to openly lesbian adult parallels her quest for family truth, culminating in insights on forgiveness and living authentically.
