About

Michael John Francis is a Nottingham‑based author whose work explores the historical, symbolic, and architectural development of English Freemasonry. His writing combines disciplined research with a reflective, literary tone, examining how ritual systems evolve and how their underlying structures shape the experience of the modern Mason.

He is the author of The Union of 1813 and The Measure of the Workman, two studies that trace the political settlement of the Craft and the operative foundations of its middle stage. His current project, The Architecture of Judgement, completes this trilogy by analysing how Freemasonry lives after the Union and how the division between the Fellowcraft and Mark degrees continues to influence the Craft’s interior life.

Michael is the founder of Ritual Archive Press and is developing a broader body of literary and cultural work alongside his Masonic studies.
