Robin Adair is the author of a forthcoming history of the Burma Banshees, the 80th Fighter Group in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II.

The project grew from a personal connection to the story—Adair’s father, Philip Adair, was a Burma Banshee pilot—and has developed into an extensive research and preservation effort documenting the men, missions, aircraft, and experiences of the group.

Adair has assembled and preserved a substantial primary-source archive, including more than 1,400 original WWII photographs, color transparencies, digitized 16mm motion-picture footage, pilot logs, oral histories, wartime records, maps, original captions, and family archival collections. New material from veterans’ families continues to add to the historical record.

The book, currently titled Bamboo Leader — The Story of the Burma Banshees, brings together these firsthand sources to tell the story of the 80th Fighter Group and its combat operations in the CBI Theater.

The story has already reached a substantial modern audience. Yarnhub's two animated films about the Burma Banshees have generated more than 10 million combined views, while the group's history has also been featured through French graphic novelist Romain Hugault's Angel Wing series.

Adair's goal is to preserve this history while bringing the Burma Banshees' story to a new generation through books, archival material, and other forms of storytelling.
